Tangy green apple salsa verde recipe made with granny smith apples and green tomatoes.  Jalapenos add a quiet kick to the verde and are the perfect toppings on tacos  – Version 2

If you can’t find tomatillos, green apples are always in season and they have the same tang.  Add green tomatoes to add texture and even out the flavor.

This green apple salsa is my favorite salsa to drizzle on tostadas and tacos.  It is a very light salsa and doesn’t over power the dish it is paired with.

Have you ever had salsa without a little spice?

Nope!

No salsa is ever complete without a little spice. In this recipe, the jalapenos step up and provide an amazing kick to the tang from the apple.

I have been known to take a spoon to this salsa and eat it right out of the bowl.  It is that good.

I know spicy food is not for everyone, so, feel free to use a less spicy pepper.  If you don’t want it spicy, then there is nothing wrong in omitting the pepper completely from this recipe.

Lately, I have been putting a sneaky ingredients in most of my meals.  That sneaky ingredient is flax seed meal and it finds its way into every recipe I am making and this verde recipe is no exception.

Yesterday, I added flax seed meal to Potato Curry and there was no difference in the taste.

The potato curry was slightly healthier because of the added protein and fiber.

Green apples are also perfect for making apple butter in the instant pot! Have you tried it?

Flax is so quiet of an ingredient that it is never noticed when used sparingly.  However, it provides nutrients to the meal and that makes me happy.

I used this salsa recipe in my pomegranate vegan taco and what a difference it made to it.  The pomegranate and apple tasted amazing!

And if you are looking for a tomatillo salsa verde recipe, try my very easy version.

What healthy ingredients do you sneak into your meals without your family noticing it?

    1. I love how creative you are! I would have never thought to substitute green apples for tomatillos but I can totally see how this would work! Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner and for sure I will give this lovely recipe with all this great spice a try!

      1. Thank you, Debra. I went to my local store to find tomatillos but they didn’t have it. So, this recipe came about because I couldn’t find tomatillos in the store but they had plenty of apples, lol.
