I am one of those people who you will rarely see without my headphones. Everywhere I go, I have my trusted phone with headphone attached to it. Whenever I am running around town, My headphones are turned all the up and I am lost in my little world. You won’t be able get my attention just by calling my name. Most people know that they have to come up to me and tap me on my shoulder.
When I am on car trips or cafes, my trusted headphones are plugged into my iPad or laptop while I work. Even if I am streaming tv shows and movies, the headphones are snuggled in my ear.
This habits aren’t something new. I think I have been doing this for almost a decade. When I lived in Long Branch NJ, I used to live close to the beach and would go for long walks whenever I could. Some opera or 80’s tune would be blasting in my ears while the ocean waves crashed around me. One of the most zen times in my life were spent that way. I sorted out so many problems on those long walks and came up with creative solutions to resolve them.
Here is my favorite spot in Long Branch, I would sit by the rock (circa 2012) with my headphones and soak in all the sights and smells of my home town. I consider it to be the most beautiful spots in the world. The sunrise from that spot is beyond breathtaking. P/S The 76 is a reference to 1776.
This days, I listen to podcasts mostly. They include educational podcasts, entertainment podcasts, creative podcasts, philosophical podcasts and anything that makes me happy. Just look at the amount of podcasts I have sitting in my queue!
My listening material has changed over the years, but, what hasn’t changed is the volume. Yes, my headphone volume has always turned wayyyy up! More often than not, the volume levels are set to maximum levels. Even as I sit here writing this post, I have my headphones buried into my ear canal while a couple of wonderful podcasters entertain me.
Free Hearing Test Online
So, taking a hearing test periodically is really important for me. When I found out that Miracle-Ear has a free online test, I knew I had to take it. It is so easy and I can do it while I sit at my computer. All I had to do was plugin my headphones and listen to conversation. My latest result showed 10/10 which is good. I intend to take it periodically along with regular doctor visits.
Next time you see me out and about, be sure to come up and say hello. Just remember to tap on my shoulder to get my attention, lol.
Unfortunately, I cannot change my listening habits, but, I can make sure that I am prepared for the future.
