What is the difference between Greek olive oil and Italian olive oil?

  • Greek olive oil is the best tasting olive oil in my opinion! The olive fruitiness is more evident in Greek olive oil. That subtle flavor can’t be found in any other olive oil.
  • Greek Olive oils are greener than Italian olive oils and they are made using the cold-fusion process.
  • Greek Olive oils have more polyphenols which are filled with Antioxidants and reduce the risk of coronary disease (Source: Healthline.com).
  • Italian Olive oils have more cycloartenol. (source: Live Strong)

Williams Sonoma

Can I use a different kind of olive oil in this recipe?

Yes, you can use any type of extra-virgin olive oil in this recipe.  Italian extra virgin olive oil will work great in this recipe.  Or, go with avocado oil too. Use Spanish extra virgin olive oil or even California olive ranch happens to be a flavorful olive oil. Whatever you use, make sure you use a good-quality extra virgin olive oil.

What can I add to the olive oil?

– Fresh garlic, minced garlic or a roasted clove of garlic
– Lemon juice
– Red pepper flakes or chili flakes for a peppery finish
– Red bell peppers (very finely diced)
– Vegetarian friendly Parmesan Cheese
– Fresh herbs like finely diced parsley.

How to serve this simple olive oil bread dip?

  • Serve with warm pita bread, pita chips, or naan bread
  • A no knead bread
  • An Italian bread like ciabatta or focaccia
  • Next time, add balsamic vinegar to the oil and make delicious salad dressings which will make your salads pop!

I like to serve this delicious dip during the holiday season mostly. Each person has their own (Affiliate Link) shallow plate where they can put the oil for easy use. If you don’t have it, you can use a small bowl only because a large bowl is cumbersome.

You can also try using blended oil (made from a mix of Greek, Italian, and Spanish olives).  I don’t recommend using them because they ruin the flavors of a good olive oil.

Storage and leftovers

It’s inevitable that you will make a big batch of this dipping oil and not use it all. The good news is that this seasoning has a long shelf life! The seasoning itself can last for 3 months and the dipping oil can last for 2 weeks.

For best results, Store it in a glass bottle, like (affiliate link) this square oil cruet.  Make sure the lid is airtight. For maximum freshness, place the cruet in a dry and cool place. Enemies of olive oil include excess moisture. It’s a good idea to use it up within 14 days.

Use the seasoning in flavoring fresh bread, marinate kalamata olives or feta cheese in it.

So, how will you use this effortless appetizer?
