Crispy air fryer Lebanese potatoes (Batata Harra) with a tahini dressing is a very easy potato side dish recipe. It’s creamy, spicy and tangy Middle Eastern spicy potato meal that is ready in 15 minutes!
Here I go again bringing you another recipe that uses tahini!
You will thank me after taking just one bite of these creamy potatoes.
Yes, it’s that good!!
It’s going to debut at my Thanksgiving dinner this year and I am sure everyone will love it.
Tips for making these potatoes
- This recipe uses 12 small potatoes (about 12oz) and air fryed in a (affiliate link) COSORI MAX XL Air Fryer
- I used Potato Inspirations ® honey gold potatoes in this recipe because they are velvety fluffy when cooked. They absorb the tahini dressing so efficiently.
- I didn’t peel the potatoes because they cook better in the air fryer. I find that they remain crispy. But, you can peel them, but air fry for 1-2 minutes less than I did.
- Make your own tahini because it is so easy! But, if you have to buy it, look at the ingredients. Make sure the ingredients say Sesame seeds and nothing else!
- If you have time, roast garlic and add it to this recipe. If will enhance the flavors of the tahini and potatoes. Add about 2 roasted cloves.
- Sometimes, tahini can be thick or gloopy. Add about 3-4 tsp of water and whisk or blend it. The amount of water needed will depend on the thickness of tahini. After adding water, it should be the texture of ketchup.
- I like spicy potatoes, so I added extra pepper flakes. Adjust to your taste.
- Make extra of the tahini dressing and use it in other recipes like this cauliflower orzo dinner or keto green beans.
- Serve these potatoes piping hot for the best taste experience.
Answering common questions
Yes, you can use potato nibbles too. They will cook well in the air fryer and will also absorb tahini.
Tahini is when sesame seeds are ground to the point that they become liquid or have a buttery texture. This is a very common ingredient in Mediterranean and Eastern African cuisine. It’s appeal is that it’s very easy to make, versatile and packed with all good nutrients.
Transfer leftover batata harras into a glass container and cover it. Refrigerate and use within 2 days.
Known as Batata Harras, all the ingredients in this recipe are traditional. The only difference is that I cooked them the air fryer. Some families will add tahini and some will not. It’s a personal preference.
– Honey gold baby potatoes
– Extra Virgin Olive Oil
– Sea salt
– Tahini
– Dijon mustard (optional)
– Agave
– Lime juice
– Red pepper flakes
– Cilantro for garnish
No, these recipe is best served hot. The tahini will dry up when the potatoes go cold. If you want to make ahead, air fry the honey gold potatoes ahead as outlined below. Hold of on adding the tahini dressing until you are ready to serve. Warm up the made ahead potatoes first before adding tahini dressing and other ingredients.
How can tahini be thinned?
- Add about a few teaspoons of water to the tahini.
- The amount of water needed will depend on the thickness of tahini.
- Whisk or blend it. You can also stir it vigorously with a silicone spatula.
- After adding water, it should be have the thickness of ketchup.
Sometimes, tahini can be thick or gloopy. The good news is that it can easily be thinned so that it’s easier to work with.
To soak or not to soak
Traditionally, these potatoes are peeled and soaked. This makes them less starchy.
Chop the potatoes (peeled or unpeeled) and place them in COLD water. It’s better to use cold water because it won’t react with the starch in potatoes.
Soak them for at least 30 minutes, but preferably, overnight.
When ready to cook them, dry the off completely before mixing with oil and air frying.
The decision to soak them before hand depends on how much time you have. I have made these Lebanese spiced potatoes both with or without soaking and they turned out delicious each time.
P/S: you can also soak them in water and vinegar solution.

These turned out delicious, crispy on the outside but creamy on the inside. I also don’t peel my potatoes because they turn out crispier and with more flavor that way.
